Hayes earned a Bachelor of Business Studies Degree from the Dublin Institute of Technology in Dublin City Centre. He is also a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association in the United States and holds a National Diploma in Exercise and Health Studies (NCEHS) and is always striving to further his education by attending seminars and masterminds around the globe.
His Personal Training clientele is a very eclectic mix and includes individuals who want to “get ripped” and obtain a cover model physique similar to Hayes. According to Hayes, the most common request he gets from clients is, “I want to look like you.”
Since Hayes has appeared on billboards and international magazines such as Men’s Fitness and Men’s Health, that is an understandable request. Hayes has a genuine sense of humility, but admits, “Very honestly, people come to me because of the way I look, the knowledge that I have, and the results that I’ve been able to help others achieve.
They also are drawn to the fact that “I maintain a competitive standard physique throughout the entire year and not just for competitions.”
Other clients coming to Hayes are looking for rapid fat loss and strength & conditioning. His current clientele is an electric group of people, ranging from men and women who are extremely overweight to guys who are extremely “scrawny” that want to build muscle for the first time in their lives, although most of his clients are those seeking to lose that last five to ten percent of their body fat and get into the ripped cover model type shape for which Hayes is so well known.
Hayes maintains his five to six percent body fat physique all year round. He doesn’t know when his next modelling photo shoot will take place and he needs to be ready to go, sometimes upon very quick notice.
In regard to training others he says, “Generally, when people come in for fat loss they are quite overweight and often have never spent much time at all exercising. For those individuals I would utilize a workout program that utilizes their own body weight to help them achieve the most effective and rapid weight loss.
There would be some strength and conditioning with an integration of weights, but not as much as for someone that comes to me to get into cover body model type condition. Manipulation of diet is also going to be much different for someone that wants to bulk up versus someone that wants to lose body fat and gain size at the same time.” Regarding abs, Hayes says, “Your abs are there. If people want to see abs they have to change their diet and train them heavy. “Abs start in the kitchen and finish in the gym” They have to get rid of the layer of fat that rests on top of the abdominal wall and train them hard.
It’s not so much related to the number of crunches that you do. I get someone into cover model shape without doing a lot of ab work. I show them how to utilize all the major muscle groups which helps them drop body fat and gain muscle at the same time. People are very surprised that they don’t have to do more exercise than their three sessions with me per week and I can get them from fifteen percent body fat down to six percent body fat within seven weeks.
They will see their abs (probably for the first time) their arms, chest, back and legs will have grown and they will look like a different person. They will have gained more muscle than they ever thought possible in such a short period of time!
”Hayes spent several years playing professional soccer in Ireland, Spain, and the United States. He began his professional career at the age of eighteen while he was still in college. In Ireland he played for numerous teams including Bohemian FC, Shelbourne FC, and St. Patricks Athletic. In Spain he played for Marbella FC. In the United States he played for the New York Metro Stars whose home field was located at the New York Giants stadium. He then went on to coach high school soccer in Newark and Morristown, New Jersey, as well as other high school locations before returning to his homeland of Ireland to settle into his personal training business. He began training and body building before his professional soccer career and continued to do so while playing soccer.
He was also doing cover modeling during his professional soccer career. He has had the opportunity to train with some of the top body builders in the world including Mr. World. These practical, “hands on” experiences, as well as his formal educational training, have enabled Hayes to achieve a vast knowledge of health and fitness that he is now able to impart to others through his personal training business.
Hayes attributes his success to his internal motivation and determination. He loves what he does and enjoys helping others achieve their goals. He has always wanted to be successful in whatever he has done, whether it is playing soccer, being a cover model, or being a personal trainer.
He states, “I do my best to be the best.” People recognize this in Hayes and, as a result, seek him out to help them with their training goals. While many people know of Hayes through his cover modeling, there are also many that have been referred to him by people that have had firsthand experience in getting results as one of his clients. After seeing some of the cover model work Hayes has done, Savage contacted Hayes specifically to do the photo shoot for the opening of his wife’s boutique. Hayes was then invited to do some personal training with the band after they return from the United States where they played at the premier of the newly released movie, Rock of Ages.
Hayes has enjoyed getting to know Savage and his family and is looking forward to the opportunity of working with Def Leppard as their personal trainer. Hayes expresses, “I count my blessings and feel fortunate that I am able to do what I do. I have the determination and motivation to become successful and I have worked to be able to put myself in positions where I am seen and recognized.
As a result, many opportunities have come my way from all over the world.” Hayes enjoys competing and plans to continue to be involved in various fitness and cover model competitions throughout the world. Hayes has been featured in television and print advertisement for leading brands throughout the world and has worked with leading designers in various countries.
The Irish National Health board has also contacted Hayes to develop a program to help change the mindset of children and parents to become more health and nutrition conscious.
